Why You Need to Know About David Goggins

David Goggins is undoubtedly one of the most influential people of our time.

When it comes to mental and physical hardship, perseverance, and accomplishing the impossible, he is an expert…a literal superhuman. Throughout his life, he defied unthinkable odds and continues to do so. He wakes up every single day and smashes his goals. This guy is a freaking animal.

If there’s anyone on this planet who can make you finally believe in yourself no matter your situation, it’s him.

In my opinion, he’s one of the toughest people alive right now. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. On top of all that, he’s just a straight up cool dude. He’s a badass in every sense of the word.

However, David Goggins wasn’t always this way. As a matter of fact, he grew up a young, severely abused child with learning disabilities. The things he saw through the eyes of a little boy are things no one should ever see. The racism, abuse, manipulation, and brainwashing he experienced growing up would bring the average kid down a path laden with drugs and crime and finally ending with death or life in prison. But not David.

Although there were times in his life as a young boy where he couldn’t possibly fathom waking up, going to school and making it through the day, he still managed to do it. He was taunted and faced with trauma and abuse everywhere he turned. As a result, David turned into an unhealthy, overweight, severely depressed human.

The beautiful side of David’s story started the moment he decided to become conscious.

The moment he decided that the world around him would NEVER define who he was inside. He was so incredibly damaged and battered and beaten down but in those moments of severe pain is where he found his hidden strength. He saved his own life. From then on, he would never make excuses for himself or others again. He would go on to master his mind and defy the odds.

David’s story gets grippingly intense when he quits his disgusting, dead-end job and decides to go after a dream he had ever since he was a child: to become a Navy Seal. If you are familiar with David’s story, you know that he is the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training (including two Hell Weeks), U.S. Army Ranger School AND Air Force Tactical Air Controller Training. By the way, if you don’t know what Hell Weeks are, just picture a group of men being straight up tortured to the point where they’re on the brink of death. Consequently (and sadly), some have died during Hell Week.

But wait, it gets crazier. David Goggins is ALSO a self-taught ultrarunner AND he holds the world record for the most pull-ups completed in 17 hours. And just when you think he couldn’t get any cooler, he becomes one of the most sought after, influential speakers in the world.

David is ALWAYS chasing after constant and never-ending self-improvement.

He thrives on challenges and accepts obstacles in his way with open arms. Barriers and doubters get him absolutely fired up. Not only is he always working on becoming the best version of himself (which is ever evolving), he is coaching everyone around him to do the same.

I can’t speak to David’s personal life as he is a pretty private introvert (believe it or not) and he enjoys keeping many things to himself. One can argue that it’s easy to accomplish your goals without a bunch of kids to take care of and blah blah blah but David defies odds that one can’t even begin to measure.

David Goggins is the exact opposite of people who are unwilling to put in extremely hard work and long hours in order to achieve success.

He couldn’t ever relate to those who are waiting for their big break – for someone to just come along and pave the path for them. He would never advocate for you to just relax and take it easy. “What’s meant to be will be” is something he wouldn’t be caught dead saying. Because for David, what’s “meant to be” needs to be achieved through busting your ass, falling down, and getting back up again every single time you think you just don’t have it in you.

What I love about David Goggins is the fact that he didn’t get this far in life because someone was holding his hand. He wasn’t even looking for handouts. He wasn’t even looking for someone to take it easy on him. He made his way by being so in tune with his reality and accepting the worst times for what they were – milestones that would take him THAT much further.

To put it another way, David Goggins is HARD.

He never sugar coats anything. The lesson we can all learn from him is that being conscious and being hard is what it takes. You absolutely, 100% need to work your butt off for the things you want to achieve in all aspects of your life. In other words, you’ll never get there by floating through each day waiting for happiness and purpose to land in your lap.

So, did I mention that David Goggins is the man? Ya, I’m sure you get the point but let me drive it home one more time – he is THE MAN. He wrote a book all about his life and his journey and he even self-published it.

Every single person should do themselves a favor and get to know David’s story. The impact he’s had on men and women of all ages is incredible.

Once you read his book, you will believe that you actually can accomplish all of the things you’ve been too afraid to go after. You can and will achieve your passions and your dreams if you’re willing to put in the hard work. Undeniably.

This book is one of my all-time favorites. It still gets me FIRED UP just thinking about it. I know you will enjoy it no matter who you are.

David also joined the amazing Joe Rogan on one of Joe’s podcasts which you can catch here. It’s so worth it.
